I have had an Elna for many years and it is my workhorse. Whatever you get, be sure you get lessons on its use. Having the store nearby is such a help.

I have 2 Bernina sewing machines. I love both of them!! Most of my close friends have Berninas and the Bernina dealership here is a joy to work with!

[b]in addition to the janome that i have i also have the viking #1+. i have had the janome about i guess 20 yrs and the viking maybe 15. i don't have one now, but brother makes a very good machine.

the janome and the viking have been very reliable and my fixer told me to keep it clean and only service it when it needs it. they both came with informal instructions forever from the same dealer. he doesn't have a teacher, so he teaches you himself, as you need a new skill.

I have a Janome memory craft 7000, it's 23 years old now, it's never given me an ounce of trouble, was in the shop for regular servicing once. It still sews like a dream and has moved to my son's Godmother's home and is feeding her addiction now. lol This year I bought a Pfaff, performance 2056, and love it! Sewing machines are personal, try out different brands before buying.
