This is what Mary McCloskey says in her book 'Blended Quilts.' "Chintz is a polished cotton usually containing large or medium florals in rich, elegant colorways. This fabric originated in India in the 17th century. Floral bouquet motifs suitable for blended quilts may be made of chintz or light weight cottons."

She uses it in her quilts and they are gorgeous. I used it in one quilt once and had no problem. The glaze does wear off but it doesn't matter.

Thank you for all the input, I now will happily use my lovely chintz polished cotton to make my quilts.

I'd appreciate all the information I can get before I start using it. I have some really pretty fabrics in florals and stripes but I am just not sure how to use them.
I'd use the polished cotton as my primary color and let other prints fall into place behind it.

The finish isn't going to wash off in one washing. Maybe in 100!

It not very good for upholstery since that glaze will also wear off do to use.

I've always washed polished cotton---------NEVER HAD A PROBLEM.

One of my summertime favorite dresses is polished cotton.

I like the polishe cotton look. Would the shine stay if the quilts were dry cleaned?

I love polished cotton. I made my daughter a dress out of polished cotton several years ago when she was in high school. When I use it in a quilt, I use the reverse side which is not polished and it turns out very nice.

Wow! Where did you get the chintz???? I love the big florals and have looked for it for years. I've asked and asked whenever I find a fabric store and all I get is blank stares. ( Does that date me???) At one point when I was looking for some for a project I even googled it with not one hit.

I use it all the time, mix it in with the cottons, I have never had a problem with it it washes great and I still have the sheen on it. I love it especially because it seems to stay cooler, so good in the summer. DEB
