Just watched my neighbor at quilt camp make a top out of mens shirts. She sewed large pinwheels with white and blue. One reddish shirt was used as a contrast pinwheel. Then the strips left were used to make a scrappy border.

It looked so nautical and she loved the soft feel.

I've got 3 in works in progress right now, all 5" charm squares from recycled shirts.

Go for it!!!! I've seen a lot of quilts made from men's shirts here over time. I even bought some shirting fabric at $1.99 a yard to make one myself.

My husband is 6'5" and his shirts are very expensive and difficult to find in his size. They also tend to rip at the elbows which is so frustrating. I refuse to throw out a $65 shirt b/c the elbows ripped.

My late DH was 6'2 with long arms, and sometimes I would cut off the sleeves to make it short sleeved shirt. In our summer heat he liked them a lot.

Yes, use 'em. The Kaffe Fasset "box" works great using striped shirts. I recently purchased a blue and white Mexican Cross quilt top that was made from a Pennsylvania shirt factory cutting remnants.

Here are instructions for deconstructing shirts with almost no waste:
