Thank you all for your imput. I spoke with a dealer, and gave what little information I could find on the machine. I was told that Janome made this machine, but it never went to a dealer......for what ever unknown reason. They said it was still a very good little machine, without a lot of bells and whistles, but that they were unable to provide a manual. This really does not make sense to me, but thats what I was told. I am still looking however. I went to the sites listed above, with no success. I did a bit of sewing with the machine, and it does a beautiful job. If it were for me, I wouldn't worry so much about the manual, but it is for grandaughter who has never sewn! Perhaps she can find someone in her area who could help her if need be. Again, thank you all.

It's true the Janome makes Elna. Janome also makes many machines that are sold as other brands, including Kenmore and many Bernettes in the past. But Janome doesn't own Singer-Viking-Pfaff, and they don't own Janome. Totally separate companies.

Here is site that MIGHT help. I've never used it, but it seems promising. Good luck.

In the US, the machines will say right on them where they are made. I've been in a sewing machine dealership with the clerk INSISTING that a machine is made in Switzerland, only to walk right over to the machine and show her that right on the label it says otherwise. eBay sellers often state that the Pfaff they are selling was made in Germany, when the machine label says Czech Republic. People can sometimes be very insistent, and yet still be mistaken.

here are sources on janome/pfaff and singer/elna and svp, which is singer, viking and pfaff.... most of these merges took place in the mid to late 90s....

however much we each love our machines, many of them are now produced by the same manufacturers...go to walmart, look at the brother, simplicity and singer models.... they are all different colors and even some different body shapes but the majority of their buttons are all in the same places on the body...the ones that aren't are the extras you get with a little bit more money....

OF COURSE, Singer/Viking/Pfaff are a group, have been for ages, what I'm saying is that they aren't owned by Janome/Elna! or the other way around, which is what another poster was saying. I wouldn't write Singer/Viking/Pfaff together like that if I were trying to assert that they were separate. Sheesh!
