Pattern for a bag to hold quilts

Here is the description of what a lot of my guild members use for quilt bags. Take a large square of heavy fabric, hem all around and fold over to opposite corners to make triangles. Stitch the triangle corners down leaving space for a 1 inch diameter 18" long wooden dowel to to go through the flap. The other two opposite corners put velcro closures on each one. Put several quilts in the middle, fold the two velcro corners in on top of the quilts and pick up the other two corner with the dowel rod handles. I use to have a pattern but can't find it. Once you seen one you can make one. I'll try and get a picture at next guild meeting.

I make one that is more like a pillowcase than a tote, using left over fabric pieced together or with a piece of coordinating fabric if necessary. Add a drawstring if you like, or Velcro.
For one more like dilyn's, I'd look for a simple tote in a size large enough to hold the folded quilt.

What is the secret to making this quilt top easier, I have just made one like th one in your picture and I bought the ppttern from you, it appears that the diamonds want to fit the other way better. it was a strugle to make it all fit, the cutting and the sewing together of the diamonds was easy, but putting it all together was the prob..

I made one for carrying boards, rules,patterns and quilts. It was relatively easy to just measure the width,height and breadth and add inserts. It is only a rectangle after all. The difficult part was finding a zipper long enough to go around the whole bag. It is also a better finish to have piping around the edge of the bag sides, which I made by encasing cotton clothesline inside the material.
