Welcome from Wisconsin! Hope your mom is better. Treasure each minute with her, as you will wish you had some day when she won't be with you.

I too am a novice quilter with pattern panic problems. I keep plugging away, trying new things with every new project. m

Welcome from Ontario, Canada. Start with simple quilt tops first like Trip around the World, 9 Patch, 4 Patch etc. Once you've mastered those move up to Disappearing 9 patch, Rail Fence, Warm Wishes etc. You will find lots of pictures of different quilt ideas in the picture gallery on QB. Most quilt blocks are a variation of different sized squares and triangles and you will gain confidence as you build your skills.

Welcome from another Texan. I used to feel the same way, but got a lot of block patterns I liked and a lot of scraps and started trying them. Before long I found out how much fun they were and have not stopped.

Hi, Depending on what part of Texas you're from (I live just north of Houston, but grew up in Tyler), I'd suggest two things--classes, preferably at a quilt store ,and/or joining a guild or other sewing group. Other sewing groups often start out at a community center, local college or church. Start simple and build on your skills. There are some good books on the essential basics of quilting (check library if you don't want to buy) and loads of information on the web.
