I also found that the white lines on the blue mat started to come off. I got a fiskars mat at walmart that I am using now.

I love june tailor mats as well as there shape cutters for strips. I have had my mat since 2005 and it is still going. Also have a new one haven't used it yet though, but they were fazing them out at walmart so picked one up.

I to have the shape cutter for strips. I have the Accuquilt Go Strip cutters and I still find myself using the June Taylor. I like to use it with my Olfa mat! (tee hee!!!)

Industry uses hard surface cutting mats because the surface lasts longer. But the main reason is because blades don't cut into the mat but roll over the mat, staying sharper longer. Self healing mats are soft and the rotary blade cuts the mat thus self healing. I keep a June Taylor mat in the trunk of my car for classes/sewdays. It doesn't warp.
