Who can live without a rice cooker? Not in this part of the country....love it. You can steam veggies in it as well...worth the cost of it.

Why not just buy quinoa and rice and cook it yourself- cheaper and you know exactly what is in it, plus no issues about cooked food sitting in plastic and being re-heated.

If you like the flavourings, experiment with your own herbs and spices- you can save time by making a batch of spice paste and freezing it in an icecube tray- when you cook the rice/quinoa- drop an icecube or two in there and it is ready to go!

Quinoa is a great grain. High in protein and fiber. Most supermarkets carry it now and you can mix it up with anything you want. I use it in salads. you can find lots of reciepies on line.

For that particular brand I would look in the nearest whole foods/ natural foods store. If they don't carry it, ask them to. Most stores like to know what people like and will accomodate you.

I read that quinoa needs to be washed really well and since it's small that's not easy. Someone mentioned making my own rice mix. I wish there was a book with seasoning recipes for rice. I can't ever get it the way I like it. I recently tried Near East herb and garlic pilaf. That was good and cheaper. You just had to cook it yourself which I liked better. The Seeds of Change is organic and the Near East has all wholesome ingredients. The only bad thing is the sodium and I'm not too concerned about it because Near East said 3 servings and we get 6 servings since we use it as a side dish. The spanish rice has 900 mg in it so that's one we won't be eating.

Wilt- what flavourings have you tried? I love ground cumin, a little cinnamon, a little chilli, heaps of garlic.... mmmmm! I also love cardomom. Sometimes I like smoked paprika, sometimes sweet paprika. Not a fan of turmeric, (but it gives a lovely colour). You can also dry fry some mustard seeds and put them in- the sky is the limit!

I wash it in a sieve.

I'm not good with combining herbs. I usually use garlic, parsley maybe Dash seasoning and add celery and onion. Maybe I'll try looking up seasoned rice and see what comes up.
