    there are lots of lightweight battings on the market- there are lightweight poly's- wool is a nice lightweight, lofty batting; some people use just a layer of light muslin- instead of batting.

    bought Pellon's Nature's Touch cotton batting when it was on sale at Joanns and am not happy with it as it is too light weight for my kid's quilts. It probably would be a perfect weight for your quilt.
