I am not sure if you ever resolved this or not, or if the quilt is finished, but I thought this might help. Karen Kay Buckley has a pattern called Fiesta Mexico with varying sizes of blocks similar to yours. She has sashing on hers and it looks great. You can do it, too!

You can figure out how you like them arranged and fill in the background with fabrics. Figure out the approximate distances and cut the pieces accordingly.
