I have (by accident) done that but don't like it. It seems to make the needle harder to go through the fabric (because the spray basting is sort of like a glue), when I turn the binding to the back and hand stitch.

I never thought to fold the binding a second time to sew in place. I only fold it once and press so the raw edges are even. The last quilt I made I made the binding double the width, folded twice to the raw edge. I've noticed some bindings getting worn thin on some of the utility quilts I've made. It think this will have the binding last much longer.

I do my bindings both ways, it really depends on the mood I'm in. Usually just fold and sew.

Ditto. Much better binding if you DON'T iron first. Probably because the folding uses more fabric on the top/outside of the binding, vs. the inside.

What a great idea! I have never thought of sewing the binding together but sure am going totry it the next time I use binding. Sounds like it would solve a lot of problems.

Great tip! You might send it in to Fons and Porter and you might win yourself a years subscription to the mag.
I'm going to try this the next quilt I do, thanks.

I like to fold and press - keeps everything together better. I do agree that it is preference.

I'm trying this too! Sure would save a lot of time. Does it matter if binding cut on the straight of the grain or not??

I can see I'm not alone!! I'm going to TRY to remember NOT to iron my binding!! I can see where this will be a prettier binding!! Now, if I can just remember.... sigh....
