That's just it. I'm having a mental block on what type of pattern would look good with this fabric.

Your quilt top is lovely - and those two little girls will absolutely LOVE their quilts. The blue sashing separates the blocks nicely so you can admire each one individually. Finish those quilts and give them to the little ones proudly -- they will adore them!

Little girls love butterflies, so your nieces will love this quilt! I like it, but it is a bit busy and that may be what is bothering you.
If you don't like the quilt at all, finish it and donate it. Then find another set of fabrics and have fun making your nieces their quilts!

I like what you did with the sashing...it's a perfect match.
A similar design, but different. I made one that sort of looked like that, but the middle was one block. It showed up the fabric more. When I did it, I fussy cut animals for the middle block. (I made it with animal/wildlife prints.)
Here it is. I just worked it up for you in EQ6. The center block started out 4". The resulting block ended up 11" finished.
