Just finished mine last night and you definitely don't want any batting. This thing is so heavy I can't even imagine what it would be like with anything extra in there. I made mine for the beach so I also didn't want anything that would be potentially soggy! I'll try to get pics. I didn't fray mine but did a zig zag around the petals. You won't need any binding because the petals close up at the end and finish off the edges. I probably won't do another one.

That it exactly the way I am doing mine right now! I had a bunch of old jeans to use & decided to put batting behind my window fabric for extra'puff'. I am just using up scrap batting-not really concerned with what type it is, just what ever is about the same loft(thickness). So far it's working out fine-going to be a great *drag around quilt*

I made that quilt and did not put batting in it .The jeans make it heavy.I stitched a 1/4 " clipped to let it fray. I took it to a lander mat to wash and dry the 1st time to help the fray and to keep the lint out of my machines. Joann's has a circle rotary cutter by olfa it works great. But use a coupon .

Mary I love your quilt. I would like to make one too, but probably won't.

Mary - I LOVE your quilt!! Thanks for sharing and for the instructions Did you use a zig zag or straight stitch at 1/4" How big were you circles before you folded them over? How big are your inner squares?

I wouldn't put batting in this kind of jeans quilt. It will be plenty heavy without batting.
