Thank you for the link to the quilt walk in North Carolina. My DH and I go to western North Carolina every year to attend Road Scholar (Elderhostel) programs in Montreat and Lake Junaluska. It is my favorite part of America. If we didn't have children in our area I would move there in an instant, probably to Waynesville. Maybe next year we can do the quilt trail.

Thanks for your reply, QuiltMom2. I found this quilt in a cabin on the pioneer farmstead of Zebulon Vance located near Weaverville, North Carolina. Since this place is a museum I could not touch the quilt to examine it. It was hand quilted and the fabric looks old. I think it is truly a very old quilt. This farmstead was reconstructed around some of the remaining parts of buildings and the furnishings are not original to the Vance family, but are items that evoke the years the Vance family living there, 1795-1840. Perhaps the curator, or whoever supervised the collection for the place, made sure everything in the cabin was authentic to the period. I can only speculate; regardless, I loved the quilt when I saw it!!

That is really pretty. Looks almost like applique but may be not. Trying to imagine how it looks in the sunlight.

Looks like an original to me too, but not too hard to draw as she is symmetrical....just sketch 1/2 of her til you get it right then make the other half to match. Might take a little time but worth it....that is a very unique quilt!

Can you contact the owners of the cabin and ask them about the quilt? I would have found a tape measure and taken measurements of it and written everything about it down.

What an amazing quilt. When I first saw it I didn't realize the shape was a woman so I just saw a very geometric design. There is something very attractive about the combination of the quilting and the design. Such a modern looking quilt. Will be very interested to see if anyone has more info on it.
