    If you are doing a scrappy border like gsbuffalo did, I would put it on muslin just for the sake of keeping your row straight. If you are just putting a solid border on, I would not worry about backing it with muslin. As GS's quilt has the green inner border, it probably is not backed either. Things should be just fine.

    Wow!!! Purty, purty! Love those scrappies.... I love to make these. They are "a no brainer"... I have alot I'll do something with someday...

    I like doing scrappies like that also. I do put borders on mine but think it would be fine without it.

    Looks great! Colors are popping and I totally get what you mean by feeling like it's a free quilt. I loved doing my first string quilt from scraps. Yours doesn't need a border. I think just white binding would be cool because it would give the illusion of white triangles on the edges.

    I am doing a few of these string blocks when my scrap pile gets big. I use plain newsprint for backing, 10" squares. I will put them together when the finished stack gets bigger (have about 15 now).
