My daughter and son-in law used the vacuum bags once to pack their clothes when going on vacation. They do save space, and they are no heavier than being packed in a suitcase. The air is taken out, and the clothes were compressed. They weren't wrinkled when the bag was opened, either!

So glad you posted this! I'm working on two pillows for a niece back in New York & I was thinking of shipping them to her this way. Can't wait to see how yours look like after they come out of the bag!!

Here they are in their new home. Seems to have worked pretty well. They were actually in the bag a little over 24 hours but fluffed right up when removed.

I don't think it would make the item heavier, just smaller.

The BIG thing to remember when packing fabric in vacuum bags is - FABRIC IS HEAVY. I love using vacuum bags with my fabric, started off putting them into a large tote. One full vacuum bag on top of another, thinking DH wouldn't know how much fabric I had. WRONG!!!!! When I went to care my tote to another room for storage, I pulled my back out. If you place 10 pounds of fabric into the bag and suck out all of the air, you still have 10 pounds of fabric just in a smaller space. So for me I had over 100 pounds (not SMART on my part), as you can see I wasn't thinking. So DH found out how much fabric I had (but just in the one tote), now I move my fabric one bag at a time (so he doesn't know that I have more - lol).

My mom and I did this when we traveled to Hawaii a couple of years ago. She had made quilts for my great niece and nephew (full sized) and we used the space bags so that we could get them in our luggage. She put one in her bag and I put one in mine. We also packed out clothing that way as well. I am happy to say the quilts returned to normal once we pulled them out of the bags and our clothing did too! Made it easy to pack!! lol
