    WD40, no water. put a towel under the foot and spray WD on everything that is jammed and leave it for a day or so.....it will clean up real good....

    WD40 is not something I would use on a sewing machine, ever.

    Thank you but I cannot take credit for this. The machine came to me with the names scratched on it and its case.

    I did. Once. A Singer 427.
    And then I had to clean it out a year later.
    And it still took me more time than that to realize it was a bad idea.
    Sometimes I do not see the obvious.

    All the guts of the machine are being cleaned with oil only. Painted or "silver" pieces that can be removed are going to the sink to be cleaned and are not coming back until they are totally dry, then any get a light oil. Not a good idea?

    Glad you were more specific. I clean those chrome parts up with Dawn or Oxyclean some times a little of each. Then IF there is rust I put them in a zip bag with a little water and a little citric acid or use vinegar to soak for a couple hours. If I have it, I use Evap-o-rust - it's quicker.
