I use size 70 needles when sewing batiks. Only downside is that my machines needle threader won't work.

When sewing batiks, I usually use the same 80/12 Schmetz Microsharp needles that I use for everything else. I haven't noticed any difference.

same here... I have written "Batik" on the plastic case with a Sharpie to remind myself why I purchased that size to begin with.

A sales clerk at the fabric store suggested using "Microtex" sewing needles for Batiks. The points work well going through the tighter weaves of batiks. I think 80/12 was the size. I tried them and they work well.

The only problem I've had with batiks is when I use a universal needle and get skipped stitches. With the sharper point microtex needle I don't have a problem.

I find the 80/12 needle works better for piecing batiks since they are more tightly woven than regular cotton. I use regular sewing needles (not universals). I do have problems quilting batiks, especially on the Bailey. Lots of skipped stitches. I probably need to buy some sharps for that.

Use a 90/14 topstitch. Works great on all cotton fabrics.

Batiks are more tightly woven ..higher thread count...but I make a lot of Batik totes and have not found that they are any harder on the needle than anything else. However, I do tend to change my needle often and use Superior/Organ
topstitch titanium needle...they are very strong and have a larger eye and hold up very well.

They are more tightly woven, but I have not really noticed. However, I have not been looking for it either. I usually change my needle when I start seeing, or feeling that it's not "right".
