i like to use the serpentine stitch too. it doesn't require FMQ but still has a little interest to it.

Same here, they only time I SITD is if that is all I am doing.

Thanks everyone for your quick responses. I got at it, and got one of the little quilts done this afternoon and I'll post it over in the pictures section for you. The only ditching I did was the outside border. Yay!! Kathy

I mainly FMQ all over, no pattern. I think it is harder on the machine and I know it uses lots more thread. I just finished three I SITD, some shows, some don't. I figure they will be warm anyway.I really prefer to just sew about 1/4" from the seams, looks neater to me. Thought I would see how easy it would be, not really.
I am making quilts from scraps to donate and trying to improve my skills at the same time.

I do mostly custom quilting and have never SITH on any of mine. Has not effected my finished look in my opinion but it may for others.

I use this serpentine also.....it is so forgiving too......

It is fine not to. I do preemie donation quilts and often the only ditch stitching I do is on the inside of the border or sashing if at all. I also aim to keep the stitching to a minimum so as to keep the little quilts soft and flexible.

If you are spending your time, you should do it your way unless you have been given guidelines. The kids will love them any way you do them and that is what is important.

I hate SITD and have not done it since I started gluing my quilts. I have a Sweet Sixteen also and like to do fun things with. I wouldn't SITD.

I prefer to Stitch BY The Ditch (instead of in it). It is a nice topstitch and looks more attractive, providing quilting at the same time.
