Maureen -- I agree, Prism has great instructions. I find if I am very careful to make sure the folds all line up (sometimes the inner fold is not perfectly in line with the outer fold) AND I line loose ends exactly AND I make sure the side closest to me is straight (I use the lines on the cutting mat) AND I make sure either my ruler or shape cut is straight on the side closest to me, I can cut straight. If I get sloppy and skip one of those steps, I regret it. It takes longer, but then every inch of the strip is usable -- and don't we pay for the whole length?

Can you tell us what you did that worked for you? There are several suggestions here and I'd love to learn what you did to fix the problem.

I'm with QuiltnLady1, as long as your folds are straight, you won't get wonky. I iron and fold, iron and fold. The folds are crisp and straight. If there is room for "air" between the fabric layers, they will get wonky on me.

this is very helpful...I also find that starching and ironing my fabric so that it can be folded flat helps...If I do not have a lot of cuts to make..like 2 or 3 strips...I find using my 6 x 24 inch ruler is best only need to fold in half and goes quickly...

The woman in this tutorial was my teacher for my very first Learn to Quilt class. She is also the president of the West Michigan Quilter's Guild which has over 400 members. The pattern we made in her class is the quilt you see in the background in the video. Beautiful quilt, with just about every quilt technique you can think of. She is an amazing teacher, and she and several other people from our guild have started this new series on quilting on YouTube. You might want to subscribe to their channel, OnPoint. Many of the lessons are the same for the class that I took. If you watch them in order you will see that she starts with some very basic beginner lessons, and builds from there. They have been a nice review for me.

Hmmm! I just finished cutting a lot of 2 1/2 strips from yardage and had this problem. I've decided jelly rolls are the way to go.
