Very clever Sephie. Reminds me of the old Quillow days when they were so popular.

    My standard is:

Length = height of the person
Width = minimum of 48" + enough to tuck around the person.

The smaller quilts that I make are not necessarily chemo quilts, but I believe a quilt should cover all of you, with room to cuddle in. I like to make sampler quilts and for me they are quite easy because I make them with 15 blocks, three across, five down, 2" sashing and a 4" border. The quilt comes out at 52x80. It doesn't take much more time to make that size as it does to make a 60" quilt. They can be tied unless you have a long arm. It is such a good feeling to make a chemo quilt. You are a good lady! The place for the feet is important to me. I use my "foot pocket" everyday when I sit in my chair. Even with shoes on, I can tell when the pocket is not in place on my feet. I would think chemo patients would really enjoy a snug piece of blanket over their feet.

I was always cold during chemotherapy. What a nice thing to do for your friend. I am with the others about size. It does depend on how tall a person is.

I usually do lap size, but will do more of a twin size for taller folks~~

Might I suggest a small pocket on the backside for your friend to put her feet into as they sit. My Chemo lasted for over 3 hours at a time and having a place for my feet in the quilt would be nice. Not a great thing for people who have a balance problem (as they might forget and trip!) but anyway, my opinion.

I make mine throw size or a little longer. To keep them light, I omit batting and back them with fleece. I generally do try to find out the size of the person and base the length on that.

Victoria's quilts makes them 50x70" (plus or minus 2") for this purpose. It's a nice size and scales easily for 12" or 9" blocks (plus a border if desired)
