Tried the Mylar once when I first started, but now I use paper and glue baste, I don't join with a whip or ladder, mine are side by side on wrong side, taking a bite from each..no thread shows that way. Just works for me. I guess I could reuse, but I don't.....

I've been reusing these for over twelve years and love them. I make the hexie and spray starch with the template still in place. Makes a nice crease, then I pop them out and reuse them. Every hexie is perfect. I have made dozens of 5o"x70" quilts to give away and 4 queen-size quilts for my family

I highly recommend using quiltpatis - plastic hexagon templates made by Pati Shambaugh - she is awesome and very helpful with any questions. It is best to order on the phone - have ordered from her several times and I can say she's highly reputable, helpful with any questions whether or not you are buying. Her phone number is 614-443-9988. One of these days, I'll have to post my Grandmother's flower garden I've been piecing since 2009 with 1930's reproduction fabrics.

I just purchased some 1" hexis from a vendor at a show. They are plastic and scored down the middle so you can fold them in half for half hexis. They also have two holes punched into them to pin the fabric to the shape for basting the corners. Once a hexi is surrounded by others you can remove the template. I had never tried EPP before getting these and I really enjoy working with them. I forgot how many I got in the bag, maybe 30??
