Seamstress tracing paper and wheel
#12
I was just thinking about this today - I got a pattern for redwork kitchen accessories and there were no iron transfers. The embroidery patterns are right on the pattern pieces, I think you need the tracing wheel and paper to put them on the fabric. Been YEARS since I used them.

Amanda Rolfe of the Three and Three Quarters Sewing Blog uses a serrated tracing wheel to prepare her paper pieced patterns before sewing. It helps with removing the paper after the block is done. Here is a link to her paper piecing tutorial to show you how she uses the tracing wheel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R4jNa2zHLbU

I have the original tracing wheel my grandmother used when she was in some kind of sewing school when she was a teenager.....oh so many years ago. Will not part with it as I feel it is her gift of sewing that she gave me. I didn't know they are still in use.

Clover Chacopy tracing paper is supposed to be washable--it comes in several colors just like the old carbon paper stuff used to. I have it and have used it with my old tracing wheel with great results. I would always test how washable it is before using it on the actual quilt top.

The surface of my sewing desk shows 15 or so lines of tiny dots. Yep! That was my tracing wheel that was used there. they are just to the right of my sewing area, so I suppose at some time I needed to mark just a small area before I sewed it. They aren't really that noticeable. I only saw them now because I knew they were there and I was looking for them.
