Walmart has some very affordable pie carriers with an insert for cupcakes.

I was just thinking, you could make a circle of crushed aluminum foil to nest around the pie pan, to keep it from sliding around in what ever container you have to carry it in.

I have four of those Tupperware pie spacers now. And I have the large carrier into which two spacers fit, and that holds three pies. The really large pie plates only fit on the top layer, and really thick pies (lemon meringue) may have trouble in the carrier. Apple and pumpkin pies and such work well.

Another tip: keep your crust in the pan. Don't let it hang over the edge; not beyond the edge of the pie plate. Much easier to keep it perfect that way.

I assume the problem is the crust will bump the carrier as the pie slides from side to side. You might be able to wad up some heavy duty foil to wedge around the pie plate to keep it from sliding into the sides of the pie carrier, or perhaps you can find some pieces of styrofoam that can be used to wedge them in place. Another option is to look for pie plate that have a wide rim. I found one at a garage sale once and it's my favorite. I just did some googling and found that Pyrex makes some called "Easy Grab" pie plates, and those should be widely available, maybe in a supermarket or department store. Amazon has them, but mail order would be a bit too late for this occasion.

I use a old metal cake carrier that can hold two cakes in it. Which makes it easy to transport 2 pies.

I have a pan that I use in the oven that works for transporting. The pie sits in a round deep indention and has wider area all around made to catch drips so your oven doesn't get dirty. Makes a good bumper.

I'm taking chocolate and pecan pies. I put pecan in a large plastic bag[new] and the chocolate in a pie container. If they lose crust, they are lucky to have the rest.ha,ha.

They make a "pie crust shield" to put on while you bake to prevent burning so it might work well for transport.
