Swizzy, needles that are called universal refers to the point of the needle, not the type of needle it is. There is no one "Universal" needle that will fit all machines. Universal needles are not quite sharp, but not quite ball point either, sort of in-between.

I love my 153, it is the pride and joy of my collection. I use singer sewing machine needles.

You need White Rotary bobbin #744 for 153 Domestic.
