That’s beautifully done and looks like it will be very useful too! Good job on getting it put together, I bet she’ll love it!

Ii know you are much faster than I am, but how long did it take you to make that travel bag? Was it less than a yard of each fabric? I can't wait to get started. I've got great stash selections and some white flannel instead of the foam. I'm sure I'll have to buy some plastic and zippers.

Marcia, I strongly suggest you get the foam interfacing. Flannel will not do the job of stabilizing the bag like the foam. If you have a JoAnn's, they have it on the bolt with their interfacing. You only need 30". You also need two pieces of heavy weight vinyl that are 12"x10", one 1" D ring and one swivel hook with a 1" slot. You need 12"x6" of the mesh, but if you can't find mesh you can make the mesh pocket out of vinyl too. You will need 3 14" zippers and one 20" or longer. You can cut them down if you have to buy longer ones. You need about 24" of 1" strapping, just plain cotton will do because you cover it. And 12" x 15" of fusible interfacing. There is an optional shoulder strap that I didn't make. I am giving you the materials list for the bag without the shoulder strap. So... you can go shopping before your pattern arrives in the mail!

As for fabric, the bag is 30" long, unfolded, so you only need 30" of fabric, really. I just used stuff I had in my stash. You need fabric that is not a one-way design, because it will end up upside down on one side of the bag when it's rolled up.

It took me two days to make the bag, but I didn't work on it all day. Most of one day, and then I finished up in 2-3 hours of the second day. If I made another one right now, it would go much faster. A lot of the time was spent reading and re-reading that pattern, to make sure I understood it right. I'm visual and work better from illustrations than words.
