I was thinking churn dash too. It's such a traditional block but not so busy that it will detract from the panel. Be sure to show what you decided when it's finished!

equilter.com offers a lot of free patterns that use panels. I've gotten tons of ideas for borders looking at the free patterns.

My thought would be that if you cut it up and made attic windows blocks and then it would look like someone was looking out the kitchen window watching the farmer work. I saw a tutorial from MSQC and that is what she did and it looked really nice. Whatever you do I am sure it will be nice. Please share with us when you decide.

Love this panel..it is so cool and what a neat gift. I like all the ideas given but I would probably do flying geese. I just did a panel quilt using a braid border around panel that turned out cool.... You can't go wrong with whatever you chose.

attic window idea would be way cool, too.

My thought was pinwheels to represent water windmills.

I was going to suggest this, also.

If you want to use several colors a braid border would look nice

I'd incorporate the fabric that looks like bandana handkerchiefs. Most farmers carried that kind of handkerchief. I like the suggestion of deep tan, as well, but bandana, too. Lots of ideas for blocks here. Love the panel!!
