How large should a quilt be for a 5 year old?

Please do not make them too small. The size recommended by many others in this thread sounds right. My kids took their 'baby' quilts with them to college and used them to wrap in when studying. I also did not make them in babyish prints - bright colors, rainbows and unicorns for the girls. I did not plan on them being around that long, but it made me very happy when they took them with them!

Suggest 50" x 70" - not twin, but not small, either. That size should be big enough for them to use until they reach 10 - 12 age range.

My daughter moved to a twin bed before she was 4. She helped choose the kinds of kites I appliqued on her first twin quilt. She kept her favorite crib blanket to cuddle. Her crib quilt was 40" x 45", I think.
