This is the method used with Deb Tucker Wing Clipper as well but she has you make them slightly oversize then trim down with the tool for always perfect or so close to perfect you don't care FG.

The geese shown in the pattern link are not Wandering Geese. Those are just Flying Geese and there are lots of good hints for making them here.
I found the pattern for Wandering Geese a while back and made up a sample, but I don't know how to find the pattern again. In Wandering Geese, the geese are off-set so that they are not in a straight line. A cute pattern, but I found that when you make a row of them, you have a very long point at the end. I took off the last piece and sewed it onto the beginning, which made an edge that was easier to add to something else.
I hope you can find the pattern for Wandering Geese. It should be on here somewhere.

Watson, here is a video that shows you how to make the no waste 4 at a time . You don’t need a special ruler to trim them. I use this method all the time. I love the pattern you are making.

I never did any flying geese until now and That came with my Go big so I cut 180 of them and put the blocks together in zig zag. There are so many seams it was hare to press. I will try to show you a picture. I don't have boarders on yet. I am sick of looking at it at this time. I can't show a picture here because I don't see the paper clip. Sorry

I use the no waste method successfully, but like to add 1/8" to the small squares to make certain there is a little for trimming.
To do that, I draw the block to the finished size with no seam allowances, cut it out then use a couple of dabs of a wash away glue to stick it to a clear ruler, inside the 1/4" marks for the seams. You must remember when trimming to allow that 1/4" on the bottom and left (or right) side or you will have a block that's too small.
No special rulers needed.

Hi Watson -

I may be Deb Tucker’s #1 fan, and I heartily recommend the Wing Clipper for your project. However, I also understand budget constraints. I recommend you print Deb’s Wing Clipper instructions, found here: https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/12...62701526429277 . Use her oversized measurements to cut your squares, and make your geese using the “no waste” method. Then have a look at my post here: Trimming Flying Geese units and see if you have a ruler that will work. If not, you could use some glow line tape on one of your rulers to make the opposing 45* lines that cross a quarter inch from the edge of the ruler. My solution is not as elegant and easy as the Wing Clipper, but I have used it for a couple of sizes of FG units and had good success. Hope it helps.

ETA: Deb also has a YouTube channel and has at least one tutorial for each of her tools. Her explanation for making the “no waste” FG is a good one. She also gives some troubleshooting tips in either the FG video or another one to help with some of the common errors in making FG units.
