    Default My First of Two

Here is the first of the two quilts I need to make by Christmas. This is just the top and will likely have some more hat emblems sewn on it before it's quilted. The second one will be similar.

This is a picture of some memory quilts I have made. The first and third quilt (from the left) are made from my dad's shirts and sport coats. The second is a rag quilt made from my dad's jeans and flannel shirts. The 4th and 6th are made from my dad's ties. The 5th is made from my dad's sweaters. All of these quilts were tied with yarn, rather than machine quilted, because I did not know how to do that. These are my siblings; I am 3rd from the left. This picture was taken at Thanksgiving 2019, 1 week after we lost my mother and 6.5 years after losing my dad. A lot of tears were shed on that day. I'm not the best quilter in the world and I told my siblings the quilts were made with love, not skill. They are all very happy with their quilts and I'm sure your recipient will, too,

I found an interesting concept for making a memory quilt for you to consider. I have posted the link below for your information. I haven't tried this technique before so maybe others can chime in on their opinions if they have done so.
I have ordered from this site and the customer service is awesome. To see the photos, please go to the link:

As you can see from all these postings, you can do "anything" with fabrics for a memory quilt. Select coordinating colors/designs and a favorite pattern and away you go. It may be you will want to simply cut squares or rectangles. Perhaps a 9 patch? Maybe a Rail Fence? Perhaps a strip quilt? Stacked Coins? Just choose a pattern and use the fabrics from the clothing. You are going to be amazed how many projects you can get from a few pieces of clothing! I've done a queen quilt, several 45" wall hangings, a Bow Tie throw, several small hangings/table pieces and I still haven't used up the original 7 shirts that I selected for the first project.

I’m a little late to the party, but I just finished 4 memory quilts from my SIL’s clothing. Hope this helps....
