    I call it sashing. When blocks don't come out the right size I hear someone say just sash it.

    Like GingerK stated above, I have heard it referred to as "framing" the quilt block. You just put the strips around the block .... like a frame.

    Coping strips are for medallion quilts. You make your centre medallion
    then you haveto match that medallion to a pieced border. If they don't
    match you add a strip and that's called coping strip. You have to do
    some math to get it right.
    If you are just adding strips to a block, I would just call it sashing.

    I call it sashing too but also frame strips. Use the word that you like and if you find a new one, I would like to know. it is always fun to find a new word to says exactly what an old word means. I had to add "sashing" to my computer's spell check dictionary. It always came up as a spelling error. The computer and Websters must be in cahoots..
