I decided its the year to use scraps. I just finished the squares for a twin-sized strip quilt - hardly a dent on the recently aquired strips (not to mention my own scraps!). Hoping to use up some at our upcoming quilt show, where I'll be letting people try sewing on a treadle or hand crank, while using up more strips (which I hope they will keep as souvenirs).

You'll also find out your scraps procreate during the night while you're sleeping. They're a never ending battle to use up. As you make a new quilt, it creates more scraps and the never ending tasks of using them up never ends.

Working on yet another string quilt. when I find small, almost tiny scraps, out they go. Out of my sewing room. Off to the detention room where IF they learn how to behave may end up in another quilt.
Just kidding. Tossing out and not retrieving.

These bins are why l decided to make quilts for the children’s hospital. Kids and dollys need to keep warm. Hospitals are always kept cold to prevent germs from growing.
Well back to the cutting board (dining table—in my bedroom).

Funny this topic should come up while I am in a "deal with your scraps" period. I have spent the last two days ironing and cutting and organizing from my very full scrap bin. The bin is actually an old cat litter bucket, with scraps packed down in it. I got sick of not being able to stuff more scraps in it, so I am "dealing with them" now. I am trying to cut the 2.5 x 4.5" bricks from my scraps for some potato chip quilts. Many of the scraps are long and skinny tho, so those are being piled up to make strip quilts. If a scrap is too small to make a brick or a 2.5" charm square, it goes into a big bag for giveaway at my next guild meeting. Some people love making their crumb blocks, but I'm not one of them.
Finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel... the empty litter bucket. Soon I'll be able to sew these puppies together into colorful tops.

Decided to attack Mount Scrap-no-more and sew up as much as I can in the month of Feb. And yes, I'm cheating and started today. Have a couple scrappy patterns from Dona Jordan, really miss her tutorials. Some blocks will be strig pieced.
I think it will be a great way to dispose of pieces that fit the category of WHY DID I SAVE THIS?

Using left over jelly rolls to make strip pieced blocks. Need 63 and have sewn 30, almost half. Sadly, the pile of fab on my sewing table does not seem to be getting smaller. Decided to take a break and enjoy special beverage before sewing more blocks.
