    I was watching a quilting video and it was suggested that you cut one inch squares of fabrics and place them on your scanner, numbering the fabrics and the swatches. Then when you convert them to black and white on your computer it is easier to see the different values. She was doing portrait quilts and was using 30+ different fabrics.

    Thanks! I'll try that Yvonne, it sounds like an easy way to accomplish the task, though for shopping I think I'll still find a piece of cellophane to carry about.

    Hi there just a little tip from the deep south of New Zealand.
    When checking colour values we often use a door peephole which seems to work . :)

    I didn't know what you were talking about until I read the link. That tool does sound like it would come in handy. That is a very neat idea.

    I have the value tool and never use it anymore. I find if you stand back from your fabric and squint you can see the value.

    The old 3d movie glasses work, one blue lens and one red one. Over head projector plastic sheets use to come in red if you can find some. Anything that is red or green solid see through will work fine. Keep your eyes open at thrift stores. :-)
