Winter Themed 12.5 Block Swap
#263
Apparently this thread has been taken over by the "Just Us" League of Excellent Quilters. Your blocks are wonderful, every one. My second block is finished (a sample to see if I liked it) and I will post a pic very soon. (Have houseguests leaving tomorrow.) It's paper-pieced: I'm working on piecing & accuracy, don't have a cutting machine. I still don't know how you all finish so fast!
K-Roll, if you can paperpiece, my hat is off to you. My brain and hands just do not compute paperpiecing. I can't wait to see what your block is.

Actually 'foundation piecing' is what I'm doing.
Glad I made a sample block to show me what I do not know!
It came out 11.5". I think I either trimmed the pieces too soon or my template is off.
And a couple points didn't quite make it. And I ironed all the seams at the end, instead of join by join.
Back to the sewing. If I don't have enough of the same fabric to make 4 more, I'll use other fabric.
My idea was an icy star. It's "almost."

For those of you who are PP. Try stitching just on the inside of the stitching line instead of on it. I have found it will make your 1/4" seam be spot on. I participated in a workshop four years ago that gave me that tip and I have used it ever since. Good luck!

Graceful Ann, do you mean, while stitching #2 piece to #1 piece, I stitch inside the line on #1, or inside the line on the #2 side (the piece I am attaching)?
In other words, which side of the line...sorry if it's obvious...logic is not my strong point. Guessing you mean, stitch a little inside of the line on #2 piece. OK I think I answered my own question. Thank you for the tip, I will use it.
I started over and finished the 1st quadrant of the 1st block in the set after discovering the template was off and would never have come out to 12.5" !!! because...
...I made a mistake when I was enlarging it on the copier and didn't measure it when printed. Lordy!
