I was told to keep a can of bee or wasp spray near me at night and also one in the car. If anything like this happens I would just spray into their eyes. I think the spray can spray about 200 feet away.

You should have waved the gun at him and said "if you come back here you will have more to worry about than being lost". they were up to no good and there is no telling what would have happen to you if you had open the door. Should have told him the police were on the way and could guide him to wherever.

My collie is not ferocious, but she is big and has a very loud deep bark. Someone came to the door the other day and I opened the inside door but not the storm door. I just said "I'm sorry I can't open this door because she is not leashed." I was holding her collar and she was barking up a storm. He left in a hurry.
About signs that say Beware of Dog: I was always told that indicates you already know you have a bad dog and if someone gets bitten you can get sued. But instead put signs that say "Guard Dog on Duty" which indicates it's a good dog, but trained to be a guard dog and only doing his job if someone comes on the property.

It's now 2pm the next day. Has Betty been online to say she's okay? Did I miss her post? Just want to hear she's okay. Scary stuff.

I am so sorry you were put thru that... I was a military wife for many years and had a few scares like that. It's very un-nerving. Thank God you are ok and hopefully are far gone to never return!

DO NOT EVER OPEN THE DOOR FOR ANYONE YOU DO NOT KNOW! I live in a rural section of San Diego Country, some people call is remote. One of my friends at church is a sheriff, he gave a speech one week end, and said. "Do not open your door.!
You were totally within your rights to tell the man you have a hand gun, or a gun and that you are not afraid to use it.
Good girl for being so brave.

Keep that gun safe and near you. Do to the shooting range and practice.
