Please show us what you have made so far. There may be a way that you could combine other fabric or solids etc into your quilt but we are stabbing in the dark without a picture to go by.Don't be too upset - there is usually a way around it all.

Can't you use something from your stash? I find when that happens to me, I end up with something even prettier than I thought I was going to have. Kits don't have to look like the picture! Good luck.

My mom did the same thing, she decided that with all her "scraps" from her existing blocks, she made a similar block(s) that she was missing! AND no one knew she was missing the "pattern" block, well until she told them! LOL just a thought :)

Thanks for the heads-up about kits from Joann's. Hope you are now able to finish the project thanks to help from fellow quilters. Great! isn't it?

I just finished this kit. I have 7 fat quarters and about 50" of the red fabric #8709289 plus a few small scraps. I will be happy to mail it to you. The red fabric is still available at Joann Fabric but it has a different # now. e-mail me your address and I will send what I have. Betty

Consider your pattern "the general idea" or a "guide" and now make lemonade from your "lemon"--Once you begin to think about it in a different way that the picture, you'll come up with an arrangement that works, altho it may be quite different than the original pattern. Just be creative and don't feel the finished quilt has to be exactly like the picture on the kit.
You will have a great quilt. Don't forget to show us.
I agree with others, if you'd show us what you have done so far, some of these creative ladies would have ideas on how to use them for a beautiful top. Also, remember your SIL hasn't seen the picture, so she will have no idea. Besides she will be getting an original and that is the greatest.

I feel your pain. The same thing happened to me with that exact pattern. Someone on the board was nice enough to send me the directions, but it bogged me down and I put it somewhere (who knows where?) without finishing it. I did have extra yardage that I could cut, but what I did with it is beyond me.

Just add different fabrics - either within the color way dots along what you have, or use complementary ones from the opposite side of the color wheel. You can never use too many fabrics in a quilt. It makes your eyes dance over the surface rather than "skim" the design because it is planned and predictable. You could add a setting (new) fabric and put some pieced or machine applique pieces (that came with the kit) in or along the top of the border/setting (new) fabric to tie it all together. Good luck.
