What is a 'hopping foot"? I have never heard that term!

A hopping foot is a foot that replaces the regular one and attaches to the needle bar. It looks like a little circle (some are open-toed also) and lifts off the fabric when the needle moves up and down when the needle comes down so it essentially "hops". The Singer Industrial machine that I used has a very high shank, so I needed an industrial Juki hopping foot to fit it.
FM quilting on a treadle is a LOT of fun, and very do-able on a regular household machine. I've only been doing it for maybe a year or two (been piecing on them for about 12 years), and it's like riding a bicycle. It's a lot easier once you relax and just have fun. Put on some peppy music and keep up with the beat. :)
