I don't. I pre-wash fabric but I like the look of the quilt before it get crinkly.

I also do it because I have a cat and it gets the cat hairs off just in case someone is allergic!

Ditto! Also, I love to take a new, freshly laundered quilt and throw it right on the clothesline. It's an amazing feeling to curl up with a quilt that's been warmed by the sun.

Everything already mentioned, plus I have a terrible habit of snacking while I'm quilting. It's never anything very messy, just things like carrot sticks or nuts. But still, I want to make sure there are no crumbs or anything when I fold up the quilt for storage or packaging.

Wow, I'd never thought about this. Always gave my quilts away without any washing, but there sure are some good points made here about doing it. Thanks everyone!

Question in re: washing quilts: do you wash in cold water OR in hot water?

I have a quilt that I need to finish & need to double-check about the washing bit also.

All of the above plus:

4. Make sure the colors don't bleed. I use a color catcher when I prewash and another when I wash the quilt.

I was mine as soon as I am done because...

1. I need to get the markings I put on the quilt.
2. I need to get all the cat hair off it. (My cat likes to sample all my work! :-D )
3. I think the washed look is pretty.
