I have a quilt that I need to finish & need to double-check about the washing bit also.
I always wash afterwards with color catchers, and will use hot water and hot dryer. Since I make my quilts to be loved, used and abused that it will hold up to any kind of use and cleaning and I like the wrinkled look.

I wash mine in cool or warm water - my "warm" setting is actually tepid

And to get whatever accumulated off while working on it. My cat thinks it's his duty to assist me while cutting and sewing.

Ditto. I guess I'm a nobody. I don't wash either. It's not new after it has been washed.

First, I do not like that "crinkly" look. Second, I am very careful when handling my work. No food or drink in the area. No hand lotion! So my quilts are very clean when finished. Sooo, I do not wash them!! If and when I give them away they go with washing instructions.

I always wash mine to make sure nothing comes apart and to make sure it's clean. It also hides my novice FMQ. Sometimes I hang it on the clothes line on a windy day which prevents little wrinkling and makes it smell so fresh.

same here. Plus, I like the crinkly look of a washed quilt.

These are my reasons too!! I would rather find the mistakes before I give it instead of after.
Me too! And I guess most of all I want to make sure it IS washable before I gift it. If it doesn't turn out well, I will keep it for myself and make another one; never had todo this yet. If you make charity quilts they tell you to wash them before sending them away.

I don't! I am always afraid the colors are going to run, despite the fact that I have pre-washed the fabric and used color catchers. So I let the recipient do the first wash and bear any responsibility! Some people like the look and feel of a washed quilt, especially if they don't pre-wash their fabric.
