Raising 2 kids in today's world, with all the electronics, online dangers, and other modern complications, I used to fantasize about living in the quieter, simpler 50's. That is, until I watched 2 episodes of "Madmen". NO THANK YOU!!!

I remember that too - druggist would get a small bottle and get syrup from the fountain.

Sometimes when you look back at the "good ole days" they weren't really so good after all. There are still prejudices to overcome.

Yep, really. And the TV shows - Beaver's mom cleaning house in pearls and high-heels, they always wore hats and white gloves when they left the house, always had DH's meal on the table and a clean house when he came home from a hard day's work, slept in twin beds (married couples couldn't be shown sleeping in the same bed on TV, but hubby could drink cocktails and smoke and spank their kids and wives at will)

Families went to church together. Kids were safe 24/7 anywhere in town. You could be a middle income family on one income. Everyone was polite; kids had manners. You knew that when you grew up you could be anything that you wanted to be if you wanted to work hard enough and study hard enough. All our products were made in America and they lasted for years and years and years. There was pride in your family, your town, your state and your country and it was talked about openly. You could brag about them without anyone getting hurt feelings because they bragged about theirs. Americans were proud of being Americans.
