We bought a Shifman last year and couldn't be more happy. They are reversible but very heavy, handmade made in the U.S.A. using real cotton in the batting. Gold Bond is another good brand. My mother likes her White Dove mattress.

When we needed to replace just the box spring, we decided to look for a platform frame and found this one.
http://www.furniturerow.com/DenverMa...se/prod350002/ Walmart carries one just like it. We paid 100.00 and it works great! Since the mattress was older we could feel a slight difference so I found a very dense foam pad at the foam outlet in Asheville, NC for about 50.00. This strategy solved our problem and saved us some bucks!

King Koil is a good regular mattress. http://www.comfortsolutions.com/matt...king-koil.html We had two over the years. Now we sleep on a classic TemperPedic split foam mattress and it is too hard and some other issues. We hated the sleep number.

This is what I did with the King Koil too but we bought matresses with no toppers and then I added a pad.

Another vote for Sleep Number, but I was lucky to buy it from a couple downsizing their home. She wasn't happy to sell her One yr old SN......they gave me the receipt, & we saved 2/3rds the retail price!
My DH could sleep on a floor,so it was my choice. We love it.Our DD has had hers for 16 yrs.....it's like new.

    Personally,I think mattress shopping is a nightmare.JMO

Love my Tempurpedic! My husband has arthritis, and this really helps. We have had pillow tops and water beds. The tempurpedic has been the best. I don't find it to be hot, as some people say, and we live in S. Texas (of course with air conditionig. I couldn't handle our 90%+ humidity with 95+ temperatures!)

We got the Tempurpedic in January and love it....It's the Rapsody firm....we did add our own mattress pad and do not have a problem with extra heat.......and I'm at the age that is a definite factor.......Before we had a wonderful Englander, but the top took a set after three years. Never could overcome that so the new one was gotten. Have had the Sleep Number, too, but DH wanted it very soft and I liked it firmer, so the "drop off" between sides was weird at sleep time......mattresses are so personal and one or two nights, don't do justice to the decision. We actually returned our Tempurpedic after two months and got this one we now have......a good return and pick-up/delivery contract is also very important....IMHO

They sure don't make mattresses like they use to, so they don't last as long. I just brought a Serta and was told they don't make mattresses that you turn over any more. You can only turn top to the bottom. Guess this is like everything else in this throw away world where nothing last. Good luck on finding a mattress.

We bought a sleep number bed and have loved it for over 20 years , just recently had to replace it with a very updated version of the sleep number bed and love that one too ...A little spending but well worth our backs and hips in the am ...
