Servicing any machine does not "add" to the cost. It's part of the use of the machine. You have to have your new ones serviced eventually.

Joe you are right - it is not a cost of a machine it is a usual expense. I have sold several vintage machines to people to piece with - it was cheaper for them to buy a vintage machine just to do straight stitch than to have one of the expensive new machines serviced.

I totally understand. I did the same thing a few years back. I had fun doing the first couple of machines but then it just got to the point I had too many that needed to be fixed . I rehomed over 20 machines , most running, before I left GA and now I have rehomed 5 just before moving back. I am down to 3 machines and a serger and I am good. But its nice to know that if I have do I can fix one.

I'm thinning the herd a bit , but not dropping out. I used 4 of my treadles today. I just finished a string quilt top(hadn't sewn the borders on yet) today using my Pfaff 60 treadle to sew the borders on the top. Also used in the construction of that quilt were the Pfaff 1222E & Singers 115,201 treadles.
