In defense of my statement that yes is a noun LOL

I majored in languages in college and took advanced placement english in hs. But I learned this in jr high!

a noun is a person place or thing. When Yes is used in a sentence such as "We need a yes or a no" then yes is a noun. When it is not in a sentence as the noun it is used as an adverb. I just didnt' clarify when I called it a noun.

Yes (no pun intended) it is commonly used as an adverb.

Then how do you spell "yay", meaning the word with the long-a and rhymes with bay? To me, "yea" has a short-a sounds, as in bad.

How do you get "yes" as an adverb? an adverb is like quickly, slowly, - modifies a verb. I would say it is an interjection, can also be a noun. But not an adverb.

I would rather see YAY than Yea - I have even seen Yeah, as in Yeah, I won a prize. to me that is Yeah, like slang for Yes.

All this reminds me of a funny story. A friend was in a museum where there was a big Egyptian display. A lot of hieroglyphics. He was in the same room with a couple who were looking at a large hieroglyphic writing and wondering what all the different symbols meant. The woman said, "There sure are a lot of ravens. I wonder what the raven means?"

He walked behind them and said quietly, "It means 'the'."

Apparently his pet peeve is when people respond with " I am doing GOOD".

Even though "good" is primarily an adjective, it is OK to say, "I am good" because am is a linking verb, and you can use adjectives after linking verbs.
I learned to say I'm happy when asked how I am doing. Takes all the stress off word use. LOL
