I have gotten them too. I too am stopping my subscriptions because: 1) they offer to let me give someone a subscription for free -- would prefer to get 2 years for the price of 1; 2) I was notified that once I paid the bill it would be the last one I received because they would automatically renew the subscription and deduct the amount from the charge account or from the checking account the check was from (and I provided permission by paying the bill); 3) I contacted a magazine when I received a "fake" renewal notice and was told that I should just pay it.
I'm down to a couple of magazines now and just waiting for the subscriptions to run out. If I find something in a bag that I really like, I buy the individual magazine.
