We had an abundance of green tomatoes this year because it wasn't hot enough to ripen them. So, I ended up with 39 jars of chow chow. We have already consumed two of them and one went to a neighbor (who has finished his off as well). I didn't put green beans, corn, or cauliflower in mine. I did use increasing amounts of peppers (jalapeno and cayenne) in the various batches as hubby wanted hot and hotter. We used it on hot dogs as a relish and it is yummy.

Thanks for the recipe (and the link). The pickled beets recipe was mentioned in that thread. Was the recipe ever posted. I didn't find it. I love beets.

BTW, we use chow chow over beans and rice, in gumbo and stews, and even as an h'or deurve over a block of cream cheese (eaten with crackers or melba toast). Our chow chow is mostly peppers, onion, and garlic.

Murphy 1, chow-chow is a type of relish made from the final veggies in the garden (A southern thing) using green tomatoes, bell peppers, onions--the usual suspects, and lots of spices and vinegar. Delicious as a condiment on soup beans or meats.

Ditto what nativetexan said. I had a client who used to make a relish and she called it last of the garden. We used it on crackers and sandwiches. My boys loved it.

Looks good! I remember my mother making Chow Chow, she, Daddy and brother all liked it, I personally never cared too much for it. You apparently had loads of tomatoes in order to make that many jars. If you don't mind sharing what is your recipe for Chow Chow, I might notice I said might just make some for DB, may just give him the recipe and let him make his own. He likes to cook.
