, is they dry out and break. I think hair elastics without the metal thing would be more durable and work as well.

I use the little plastic bags ( I think they're about 2"x3") that you can get in the bead section, to put the thread and bobbin in. I use zip lock sandwich bags for the cones from Superior threads. Has worked well for me.
