Seeing your quilt, I would probably just complete it, as you have a wonderful start. If you are concerned about the prints going in different directions, it may be because the print in the 4 corner blocks are all oriented the same way. You could easily take 3 of them out and rotate each so you have one facing, N, S, E & W. This way, there is no specific up or down and which ever way you turn the quilt, you have some of the patches facing the correct way. Also, if you are really concerned about the center, I would applique a small octagon over the place where the points join, however, I'm not sure a non quilter would notice!

I would suggest you do an inner border in white, then a wide outer border in the nautical print. Other than that, remember the rules: Rule #1 -- Don't sweat the small stuff. Rule #2 -- It's all small stuff. Remember, too, you are your worst critic.

It's your dad's favorite color with fabric that carries memories for both of you. He will see the time and love you put into it, not the fact that some of the points don't match up. He probably doesn't even know that the points are supposed to match up. Please finish the quilt and enjoy seeing his pleasure in receiving it.

use two colors only. works great, I usually do two circles but you can add a third one and I use 12 1/2" squares cut into two half squares .. good luck, I see others have done two or three colors also and they are just beautiful..

If it bothers the original poster, it bothers her.

Directional fabrics with a block/design like that can be very tricky to work with.

Seems like a project where a lot was learned - and - in my opinion - it's quite all right to start over with a different pattern or different fabrics.

The fabrics did go together nicely.

I think it looks fine. Once it it quilted and on you bed you won't notice the points being off.

My squares are suppose to be 5 1/2 inches. Going to buy a new ruler and new blades for my rotary cutter. Not giving up on this one.
