What a great save! I love the idea of tying the quilt using the machine.

I'm happy that you were able to save that quilt. In the early 70's knits were very popular = I was given some quilt pieces by a friend to see if I could use them, they were all knit hexagons. I sometimes regret that I could not make a quilt with them, as her dear MIL was someone very special; however, I know my limitations too, and I think she understood.

Lot of work! Long as he's happy and you got through the mildew. Did you tell him not to put it back into the trunk? He'll do what he wants anyway. Going to try that "AWESOME"!

One question in my mind here, did you go back and de-mildew all your equipment that came in touch with the mildew when you were working on the quilt. I am almost sneezing here just reading these entries. You were a reall sweetheart to do this for him, and I am sorry that he was too anxious to leave to appreciate what all you did.

I did a knit quilt back in the 70's too . My kids used it for years, it came apart at the seams which had been done by hand. Well I knew if my kids found this they would trash it , so I took the whole thing apart and sewed it by machine , it turned out beautiful !! I used a different sashing and backing but I made it and can do it my way, Right????

I don't know but I'm glad someone did. My mother in law made one for each of her children out of double knit. That was a long time ago. I have one and my son has one and they are still as beautiful as the day we got them. A neighbor made my step dad a lap quilt out of double knit and I love using it in the winter. A friend at church just brought me a box of 4" blocks and a shoe box full of diamonds cut out by hand by her MIL and the diamonds are double knit. I am going to attempt to put the diamonds together into a quilt.

When I was working with a group of ladies to make quilts for a children's home I put out the word we needed fabric. Well, you know everyone in church de-stashed their double knit. I can't find it in my heart to throw it away. One of these days I'm going to make quilts out of it.
