My scraps are sorted by color into clear shoebox sized bins. At one time, I cut a bunch of 6x4 blocks and 2 1/2" squares for projects. and then assorted sized strips for large blocked log cabin. I never got to the log cabin, so I've been kicking myself for cutting some of those favorite scraps into strips. I also English Paper Piece using 1.5" diamonds, so all the 2" strips have been pulled from that box. Now I've started using 1" hexagons, so 2 1/2" squares are next.

I needed a block fast. I had a collection of 3" squares left over from making blocks for a swap in my scrap drawer. Pulled them out and wiped out that block in no time at all. I actually had enough for a small quilt, but only needed a block. They do come in handy for making pincushions, mug rugs, or other small items -- especially if you already have them cut into squares. I always cut extra strips and squares from every project for my scrap drawer and it always comes in handy for other projects.

I just took a class with my guild with Pat Speth- she's the queen (and author) of Nickel Quilts. I haven't been quilting long enough to have scraps for a quilt, but she sure was an inspiration for cutting 5" blocks. Her patterns are awesome and pieced borders even more exciting...all from 5" squares. I like brighter colors than she uses, but it's all about the lights and darks! I would purchase a "G0" just to keep up with scraps!

I have 3 granddaughters that are old enough to learn to use a rotary cutter. I plan on having them practice on cutting up scraps into strips an squares and then sort them this summer since this is such a tedious chore. Then I get to continue on my other projects. They want to make a quilt this summer too so maybe it could be a scrappy quilt.

I don't cut my scraps until i get ready to use them. Most of mine go into string quilts for dolls that i do every year for a Christmas party that a lqs helps sponsor for underprivileged children. They are so much fun to do.

I LOVE the Creative Grids Scrap Crazy Templates. As soon as I am done with a project I cut the scraps using this template. I also cut 5 inch charms. My sewing space is small so I cannot have too much stuff. It took awhile to get them cut when I first bought this template set. Now it is easy to keep up with it.

I have started cutting all little scraps into 2.5" strips, and sew them into my own "jellyroll", so I can use them in a truly scrappy QAG. Some of the pieces are 2.5" x 1.5", so I am hoping to get a real scrappy.
