Curious Question

I used to call it the sewing room, but I have changed to studio. REAL art happens in there! I have to take pride in my art or other people have been known to smirk. THEY will be put on the BLANKET list (as in they will NEVER get a quilt from me...but maybe a blanket from WalMart!)

Ha, I live in a studio (one room) apartment, so... it is an ever changing, sewing/lounging/music/bedroom "studio." If I had a house, I'd have a sewing room, and I'd call it a sewing room. My husband would probably refer to it as my "abyss."

All I know is I have to get on the ball and reorganize my "sewing area/guest room. We may be moving sooner than expected. Landlord is considering putting this house on the market. Wants more than it's worth. He keeps talking about it and has been for last few months. He just seems to be more serious. Really going to have to downsize. No matter the outcome, I'm really going to have to compact. Looking at serious sewing/quilting in small spaces. Mine will just be a sewing corner if I'm lucky!

I haven't quite settled on what to call mine, and it's being renovated right now (new flooring, paint and closet with barn door design wall) so I want to figure out a new name. Choices are quilt studio, quilt cave, quilt wing, or quilt room, or anything else clever I can come up with.
When I have friends over to quilt we sit at my huge dining room table, and my husband has a sign he tapes up which says "sewing annex".

In one of the quilting books I've read -- I think it was by Harriet Hargrave -- the author advocated the term 'studio' because she wanted quilting to be respected as an art, and for quilters to respect their quiltmaking as an art. I think 'quilting studio' is a more specific term, and would probably fit my space better than 'sewing room', as I don't do other kinds of sewing (but I still use 'sewing room').
